Math Centers Task Cards

I hope you're all enjoying your summer so far (those of you who are already out)! I'm sure some of you remember the Math Centers Task Cards I said I was making...like two years ago! Haha. Well, I have FINALLY had the time to finish them and I'm SO excited about this set! I haven't been able to find anything else like this on TpT! I included over 330 hands-on tasks and I know kids will have so much fun with these! There are so many things to do and they're activities that can be repeated throughout the year so you don't need to change out stations and themes every week! Plus, I included the related Common Core Math Standard on each card to make organization and planning easier. I'm also making a coordinating set of printable games and recording sheets to make prep even easier!

    1. Hi Kathy,
that happened to me just 2 years ago. It's fun, but the first two weeks are challenging with kinders. So, keep it up and they will come around. My first year at K, I thought to myself, if anyone walked into this room right now, they would never believe I've been teaching for 16 years! I discovered they find peace on their ASSIGNED carpet square, and thus I began to develop some semblance of order. I sang the open shut them, open shut them chant a LOT! Good luck! You'll fall in love with those little ones!!!

    2. Kathy,
Thank you for your sweet comments! And I agree with the above...be prepared with routines, procedures, songs, etc to give them some structure and, most of all, have fun! You'll be great and I hope you love kindergarten as much as I do! Good luck :)

  7. I'm super excited! I hope your big news is that you will be teaching kindergarten again. I am a faithful follower here in California. I have been teaching for 18 years, but as young as you are, I think you are a genius at the craft of teaching! Best of luck!!!

  9. Great post! I enjoy reading all your posts, especially the colorful and fun math and literacy stations. I am a new teacher and I am going into my third year of kindergarten. I am still trying to successfully implement math stations. Last fall, I used the Debbie Diller math tubs but had difficulty changing out the tubs.

Do you have any advice about changing out the tubs? How do you teach the new stations? Do they follow the same general format?

    1. Thanks Whitney! To be honest, I have had a difficult time implementing them effectively as well. It's definitely something I'm still working on. Because my old school didn't really provide time for small groups during math, it was very hard to fit it in. I usually only had time to do centers a couple times per week. Since we didn't do them every day, I was able to change them out only once a month. My center activities follow a consistent format but with different content and skills each month so that kids can become familiar with them. I usually taught new centers during my whole group math lesson. For example, I would teach the class how to play a new game during my lesson and then have them practice independently with partners before I placed it in a center.

I'm currently reading a book called "Guided Math" by Laney Sammons, which I'm finding really helpful in implementing a math workshop approach. This approach emphasizes teaching math in small groups and centers. I'm hoping to try it out in my new school this year. You should check it out!

  10. Thank you for your advice! I really appreciate your feedback. I purchased a copy of Laney Sammons' "Guided Math." It is a great read so far. She offers so many new approaches and methods to math, whether it is small or whole group. Thank you, again, for your suggestions!

  11. I love your website and really enjoy looking through your math and literacy center ideas. I really like how you have integrated these two contents together. How often are you teaching math centers this year? I find that this year I am doing a little bit more task-based math activities with my students and am still working on the right balance between math centers and small group activities like tasks. Have you found that book helpful in addressing things like this? Thank you for all your great ideas!
